Development Manager – Retail Mixed Use

  • Predominantly Retail developments with some exposure to other built form
  • Autonomous role with flexible working arrangements available
  • Expected long-term progression through the ranks to Development Director

The Company

A well-backed and financially strong CBD based Australian Property Developer & Investment Manager with a strong appetite for further acquisitions and a strategy of development and long-term holding of assets and joint venture arrangements. A new opportunity has been created within one of their business streams to drive their retail projects, consisting of unlocking town centre opportunities within Residential communities, shopping centres and mixed use projects in all growth corridors of Melbourne.

The Role

Reporting into and working closely with the Development Director, you will have the opportunity to work autonomously and trusted to have major input into projects and the company direction. Your responsibilities will include market research, due diligence and assessing highest and best use as well as the commercial viability of sites, preparation of detailed feasibility studies, preparation of development applications and obtaining a permit, presentation of findings for review by senior management and board, stakeholder management, managing front end project design outcomes, preparation and evaluation of tenders and managing the appointment and performance of consultants, negotiating with major retailers on new lease deals, lease variations, AFL’s, managing project managers to deliver projects within approved budgets etc.

Although your focus will be on Retail developments, it is expected you will have some exposure to other built form asset classes such as Residential or Commercial as part of mixed-use schemes.

Skills & Experience

  • Retail project/development experience is essential from a Developer, Retailer or Consultancy
  • Degree qualification in a Property related discipline plus 3-5 years post-grad experience
  • Full life cycle development experience including planning and design is essential
  • Experience in negotiating new lease deals, lease variations and AFL’s
  • Strong network in Retail Property
  • Motivated self-starter who displays strong passion for retail development
