The Organisation

The Melbourne Market Authority (MMA) operates the largest wholesale fruit, vegetable, and flower market in Australia. Around 1500 separate businesses operate within the Market, and there are approximately 10,000 access card holders. It is estimated that $2 billion of fresh produce is traded through the Melbourne Market each year.
Operating from a purpose-built facility on a 67-hectare site at Epping, the Market provides the critical link between growers, wholesalers, retailers, and the fresh produce supply chain and is a significant contributor to the Victorian economy.

The COO role collaborates with the CEO and Executive team, and the MMA Board to develop corporate and operational strategies and is charged with facilitating these efforts across operations.

The role

Guided by the objectives of the MMA board and CEO, and ensuring the organisations purpose and values are continually embraced, the COO provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the MMA has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people in place to effectively ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.

Key duties & responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Management- Ability to influence outcomes amongst diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Financial Management- Expertise in formulating and delivering operations budgets that align to broader financial objectives.
  • People Leadership- Create and support a meaningful experience for all staff and foster high performance culture.
  • Facilities Management- Experience in managing asset lifecycle and facilities operations, including outsourced service delivery, within large scale, critical infrastructure.
  • Project Management- Strong understanding in the design and delivery of asset/operations enhancing programs.

You will offer exceptional leadership qualities and the desire to take ownership of responsibility whilst working with and supporting others. As a leader, you will actively seek out the feedback of others and can understand the day to day needs of the operations whilst maintaining a focus on strategic objectives. You will be procedural in nature and balance the need to deliver key tasks with the importance of supporting customers and staff.
